Barack Hussein Obama II, born on August 4, 1961, in Honolulu, Hawaii, is a prominent figure in American history. He served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017, making history as the first African American to hold the office.

Barack Obama was born to Barack Obama Sr., a Kenyan economist, and Stanley Ann Dunham, an American anthropologist.

His parents divorced when he was two, and he was primarily raised by his mother and maternal grandparents. Obama's mother later remarried to Lolo Soetoro, an Indonesian man, and the family lived in Indonesia for a period before returning to Hawaii.

He pursued his education at Occidental College, Columbia University, and Harvard Law School. In Chicago, he worked as a community organizer, lawyer, lecturer, and senior lecturer of constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School.

His political career began in 1997 as a member of the Illinois Senate. He then represented Illinois in the U.S. Senate from 2005 to 2008. His tenure as the 44th President of the United States began with his inauguration on January 20, 2009, following his victory over Republican nominee John McCain in the 2008 presidential election. He won re-election in 2012, defeating Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

Barack Obama married Michelle Robinson in 1992, and the couple has two daughters, Malia and Sasha. Michelle, a Harvard Law School graduate, worked at the law firm Sidley Austin, where she met Barack. The family spent eight years in the White House, from 2009 to 2017.

During his presidency, Barack Obama implemented significant reforms and policies. He signed the Affordable Care Act, providing health insurance to over 20 million uninsured Americans.

He also signed the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, and the Don't Ask, Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010.

His administration was marked by the end of the war in Iraq and the capture and killing of Osama Bin Laden. In 2009, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.

Post-presidency, Barack Obama continues to be active in various causes. He has spoken at several conferences and events, including the COP26 climate conference in 2021, where he emphasized the urgency of addressing climate change.
