She attended the University of Kansas, where she earned an education degree and briefly taught high school drama before pursuing acting full-time.
Her career began on television, with appearances in shows like "The Streets of San Francisco," "Starsky & Hutch," and "Police Woman." Her breakthrough came with "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," which became the highest-grossing film of its time.
