Janet Waldo, born Jeanette Marie Waldo on February 4, 1919, in Yakima, Washington, was an American actress and voice artist who left a lasting legacy in radio and animation. Her mother, Jane Althea Blodgett, was a singer trained at the Boston Conservatory of Music, and her father, Benjamin Franklin Waldo, was reportedly a distant cousin of Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Janet Waldo attended the University of Washington, where her performance in a student theatrical earned her an award and caught the attention of Bing Crosby. A Paramount Pictures talent scout signed her for a screen test, leading to a contract with the studio.

Her career began in radio, where she voiced the title character in the popular series "Meet Corliss Archer" from 1943 to 1951. She also appeared in several films in uncredited bit parts and small roles, but her big break came with her role in Cecil B. DeMille's "Lux Radio Theater."
