Joe Vera (born April 20, 1941, in Pomona, California) is a Mexican-American graphic designer renowned for creating some of the most iconic logos and posters of the early 1970s in Mexico, including the emblem for Cancún in 1974 and the official poster for the Avándaro Festival in 1971.

Born José Guadalupe Vera Gomez to artist parents, he received his early introduction to the arts through performing the lead role in the Mexican Christmas play "Las Posadas" at the Padua Hills Theatre in Claremont, California, and later attended the prestigious Art Center College of Design as a college student.

In 1968, Joe Vera relocated to Mexico City to collaborate with designer and artist Giancarlo Novi, where his reputation quickly grew among contemporary artists and led to commissions from influential figures like Telesistema Mexicano producer Luis de Llano Macedo.

His breakthrough came with the psychedelic poster for the 1971 Avándaro Rock Festival, often compared to Woodstock for its cultural impact in Mexico, which opened numerous opportunities and established his studio, Joe Vera & Asociados.

By 1974, the Mexican federal government entrusted him with designing the enduring Cancún emblem, symbolizing the resort city's turquoise waters and tropical allure, which remains in use today.

His portfolio expanded to include logos for Banco Mexicano Somex, Pyteco, Diblo Holding, Probursa, the Miss Universe Contest, and Freelance Forum, blending modern graphic techniques with cultural motifs reflective of his heritage.

In 1986, Joe Vera returned to the United States and founded Vera Design in Los Angeles, where he continued producing work for brands such as Aca Joe, Danone, and Purina. As a founding member of QUARUM, the design council of Mexico, he contributed to elevating graphic design standards in the region during the late 20th century.

His career bridges Chicano artistry and international branding, maintaining an archived website that showcases his influential contributions to visual identity in both nations.
