Julia Stiles, born Julia O'Hara Stiles on March 28, 1981, in New York City, is an American actress known for her versatile performances across film, television, and theater. Raised in Greenwich Village by her artist mother, Judith Newcomb Stiles, and her businessman father, John O'Hara, Julia began acting at the age of 11 with New York's La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club.

She has two siblings, John Junior and Jane, who is also an actress. Julia is of English, Irish, and Italian descent.

Julia Stiles made her acting debut in 1993 on the mystery show "Ghostwriter" and her first film role was in "I Love You, I Love You Not" (1996). She gained prominence with leading roles in teen films such as "10 Things I Hate About You" (1999), "Down to You" (2000), and "Save the Last Dance" (2001).
