Patti LuPone

Patti Ann LuPone was born on April 21, 1949, in Northport, New York, and she grew up on Long Island. Her parents, Angela Louise and Orlando Joseph LuPone, were both educators, and her great-great aunt was the renowned 19th-century opera singer Adelina Patti.

From a young age, Patti was drawn to the stage, and she began dancing at the age of four. She attended the Drama Division of the Juilliard School, where she was part of its first graduating class. Her early career included performances with The Acting Company, a classical repertory theatre ensemble.

Patti LuPone made her Broadway debut in 1973 with Anton Chekhov's "Three Sisters" and quickly gained recognition for her powerful performances. She received her first Tony Award nomination for her role in "The Robber Bridegroom" in 1975.

Her breakthrough came in 1979 when she played Eva Perón in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Evita," earning her a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. She continued to excel on both Broadway and the West End, winning multiple awards for her performances in "Les Misérables," "Anything Goes," "Sweeney Todd," and "Gypsy."
